Passion!, a deep word most of us only understand in the context between lovers. In its ambiguity, the definition I am referring to is profound in meaning to me.
“ Passion is when you put more energy into something than is required to do it. It is more than just enthusiasm or excitement, passion is ambition that is materialised into action to put as much heart, mind, body and soul into something as is possible” (Urban Dictionary)
What are you passionate about?
If I were to ask you, what are you passionate about? How many of you would be able to tell me you are living your passion/s. Life can sometimes pull you into a whirlpool you feel you cannot get out off. This could be parents expectations, bills, hungry mouths to provide for, the list goes on. We can get caught up in a mundane routine, ebbing and flowing from day-to-day. As women, the whirlpool may sometimes feel like a black hole, as we get consumed into the stresses of everyday life. We wear many hats, that of wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher, provider disciplinarian, healer, you name it! In the quest to be “superwoman” many of us abandon our passion/s. You can be passionate about anything really, cooking, sewing, singing, blogging, office administration, etc. The point being, it’s not “what” you are passionate about, but “why” you are passionate about something. Fulfilling your passion is like food to your soul!
I try to write about topics that have personally affected me, so allow me to bring myself into the equation. You see, I abandoned what I was passionate about to gun for a socially acceptable degree and the glorified corporate career. But sooner or later, my true passion started to re-surface and I had to admit to myself that I was living a lie. You know the feeling when you look at your life from the outside and you don’t recognise yourself? That was me until a few months ago when I made the decision to become an artist again. Artist? As in painting? No! Artist, as in a person who “creates”. I recognised my talents and the things that make me beam with joy. I recognise myself as the brush to my canvas, the pen to the blank paper and the lyrics to my music. I am finally living my dream and taking the necessary action’s to make my passions a reality. Expect to see my metamorphosis in real-time, as I step out of my comfort zone and fly for the first time. This blog, along with many other ventures, is the first tangible goal in my “passion transformation”
Start living your passion today
I have learned, It’s never too late, and never too difficult to make a change. It doesn’t have to be a complete life shifting decision, it can be little things that position towards your happiness. By no means, do I mean, quit your day job and become a guitar-playing hippie, do everything in moderation and consideration. It is far less important, to please other people and to subscribe to the rules society imposes on you. The beauty of life is, you can create your own path, your own rules, your own destiny!
“ Life is short. If there was ever a moment to follow your passion and do something that matters to you, the moment is now.” (Anonymous)
