What is Easter really about?
When I look around on social media, the malls and the general hype around this time, I hardly ever see the real reason for Easter being discussed. For us, this is by far the most important period in our faith. It is a time we remember the sacrifice our Lord Jesus made, when he died and rose again, so we may be reconciled to God.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16
It is a time of reflection for us, and we are cognizant of not getting caught up in the commercialism. Bunnies and eggs are cute and all, but it is not the reason for the season.
We make it a point in our house to celebrate holidays like Easter, but also show and teach Ardyn why we remember this time. She may not fully understand yet, but she will in time. We read her baby bible to her every night. It is in simple language, and illustrated beautifully to keep the baby’s attention. You can get wonderful baby and kids bibles at Cum Books, Exclusive Books and Bargain Books.
“Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they grow old, they will not depart from it” Proverbs 22:6
That being said, we don’t plan to take the fun part out of it, of course, we want our child to be a child, but we will always remind her of Jesus and what he did.
How we celebrate
Since having Ardyn, the Hubster and I began to create our own family traditions. We celebrate life, and we truly believe in creating memories. We decided every year until she decides not to, we will make personalized clothing for her. I could not find what I wanted in the store, so I got my print done on a cute simple baby grow. We did some Easter crafts as a family, that we will display at home. When she is older, we will incorporate more activities like Easter egg hunts, etc. Having a baby really got my creative side going again, and I love it!
We always have fun at home, we cook and bake any chance we get, so this will not be any different. However we do plan on baking some yummy Easter-themed treats, just for fun. We prefer spending these holidays just as a family, us three and our two dogs. We will go to church on Good Friday, and on Sunday. We don’t really watch television a lot, so we will read, we have lots of new books to devour, work on the business, blog, study, do crafts and just enjoy our time at home. With all the latest developments in our lives, this may the last quiet weekend we spend as a family for a while.
Look out for my next post where I show you the crafts we did, and give you some Easter inspo
